What Is Classical Education?
A Time-Tested Approach to Learning and Living
Classical education is an ancient approach to learning that has shaped great minds for over two thousand years. At Regina Academy, we’ve embraced this proven method because it teaches children how to think, not what to think, while aligning with how children naturally learn and grow at each developmental stage.
How Classical Education Works
The Natural Stages of Learning
Classical education recognizes that children’s minds develop in predictable stages, and our teaching methods work with these natural patterns:
The Grammar Stage (Ages 5-12) Young children love to memorize, chant, and absorb information. During these years, students build foundational knowledge through observation, memorization, and sequencing. They develop concrete skills while their natural wonder about God’s creation is cultivated.
The Logic Stage (Ages 13-15) As students mature, they begin to question and analyze. Students engage in analysis, reason, and intellectual argument. They learn to think critically, participate in Socratic discussions, and understand cause-and-effect relationships while remaining rooted in truth.
The Rhetoric Stage (High School and Beyond) Students learn to express ideas clearly and persuasively. They leave Regina Academy well-prepared with the analytical skills and foundation needed for eloquent communication and rigorous high school academics.
Montessori Pre-School
Where learning begins with wonder. Our Montessori program for ages 3-4 nurtures each child's natural love of learning through hands-on exploration, preparing them beautifully for classical education.
Lower School
Building strong foundations through observation, memorization, and sequencing. Students in Grades K-5 develop concrete skills while discovering the unity of all knowledge rooted in Catholic truth.
Upper School
Developing critical thinkers through analysis, reason, and intellectual argument. Students in Grades 6-8 engage with the great ideas of Western civilization while preparing for rigorous high school academics.
Classical Education at Regina Academy
At Regina Academy, classical education is integrated with authentic Catholic formation. Our curriculum helps students discover that faith and reason work together, and that all knowledge finds its unity in God.
We capture children’s natural sense of wonder and lead them along the path to wisdom. When information is presented from the perspective of wisdom—rooted in Catholic truth—children naturally want to learn more. This wonder is cultivated through our Catholic identity and rich liturgical life.
Our goal isn’t just academic success, but helping students become the persons God created them to be—equipped with both knowledge and virtue for faithful living.
