A Reflection on Meaning, Purpose, and the Call to Holiness
Each of us was born into this world with a purpose written into the very fiber of our soul. Long before we took our first breath, God imagined us. He dreamed us into being—not as a mistake, not as a number, not even as a servant—but as His beloved son or daughter.
And yet, for many of us, life has a way of burying that truth under layers of confusion, distraction, pain, and doubt. We chase success instead of significance, comfort instead of calling, approval instead of identity. We begin to forget that we were made for more—more than survival, more than the applause of the crowd, more than the anxious comparison game that steals our peace.
The saints show us another way. They remind us that holiness is not about perfection but about transformation—about becoming fully alive, fully human, fully who we were created to be. As St. Irenaeus said, “The glory of God is man fully alive.”
To become the person God created you to be means learning to see your life as a gift and your circumstances as a mission. Even your suffering—especially your suffering—can become the crucible through which God purifies your heart and awakens you to deeper meaning.
As Viktor Frankl wrote, “Those who have a ‘why’ to live, can bear almost any ‘how.'” Purpose transforms pain. When we discover that our life has eternal meaning, we no longer run from hardship—we allow it to refine us, to teach us, to bring us closer to Christ.
Living with purpose means choosing each day to live with intention. It’s asking not just, “What do I want out of life?” but “What is God asking of me today?” It’s trusting that your gifts are needed, your love matters, your voice counts, your story is sacred.
It means believing—really believing—that you are not an accident. That you were formed in the image of God to reflect His light in a world that is starving for hope, desperate for love, and blind to its own dignity.
When you begin to live out of that truth—when you live as if your life is part of a divine drama—you begin to walk differently. You speak differently. You forgive more easily. You become less concerned with impressing others and more concerned with loving them.
And in doing so, you not only become who God created you to be—you help others do the same. You become a spark that ignites meaning in a world gone numb. A signpost pointing to eternity. A living witness that it is not death, but love, that has the final word.
So do not be afraid to live with meaning. Do not be afraid to seek your purpose. Do not be afraid to become the person God created you to be.
Because the world needs that person. And God is waiting for you to say yes.

Did you know our very own Miss Bollinger is not only a gifted artist with paint, pen, and craft, but also a passionate baker? When she’s not inspiring creativity in the art room, she’s crafting handmade loaves, baguettes, and pretzels from her home kitchen right here in Bucks County.
Miss Bollinger’s love for baking began in childhood and has grown into a small local business rooted in the European bread traditions she fell in love with while traveling abroad. Her goal? To make REAL bread, made by a neighbor.
From sourdough to soft pretzels, her baked goods are as delightful as her classroom energy. You can visit her website: thevillage-bakery.com or stop and see her at one of the markets below!

As we open another school year at the Regina Academy at St. John the Baptist, I want to share a reflection that strikes at the very heart of why our Academy exists—and why your presence here, as a parent or supporter, matters more than ever.
Each child who walks through our doors is not just a student to be educated, but a soul to be formed. They were created by God with a unique purpose, called not merely to succeed, but to become saints. Our mission is to help them discover who they truly are in Christ, and to walk confidently toward that destiny.
This isn’t a generic educational vision. It’s personal for us. It’s deeply rooted in the life and legacy of a young woman who lived that mission to its fullest, my daughter, Maria Middleton.
At just 16, after being diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor, Maria was asked how she was doing. Her response stunned us:
“No matter the circumstances of my life, my mission and purpose remain the same: to know, love, and serve God.”
Maria’s final handwritten words were: “Think Hope.” They were not words of wishful thinking. They were an act of radical trust in God’s plan—even in suffering. She lived with purpose because she knew who she belonged to and why she was here.
That is the very spirit we strive to cultivate at RASJB. In a world that’s confused about identity, afraid of truth, and allergic to sacrifice, our children are learning that life has eternal meaning, that they were made for something greater than comfort, accolades, or even safety. They were made for love. They were made for virtue. They were made for God.
To become the person God created you to be is to live with intention, to choose the narrow path, to embrace both joy and difficulty as part of God’s refining work in your life. It is to understand, as Maria did, that suffering does not destroy our mission, it can reveal it.
This year, let us renew our shared commitment to forming children who are not only intelligent and capable, but courageous and faithful. Let us partner as families and educators in the holy work of raising up the next generation of saints. And let us remember that our own lives, as adults, are also being shaped by this mission.
So I ask you: what is God calling you to this year? In what ways is He inviting you, through the joys and trials of life, to become more fully the person He created you to be?
May we all, like Maria, choose gratitude, choose courage, and above all, choose hope.
With faith in our mission and gratitude for your support,
Brian Middleton
